Port Royal was originally developed by John Glenn Sample and was named for a 17th century port city in Jamaica that Sample had visited. This sparked his dream of creating an exceptional community alongside the Gulf of Mexico and Naples Bay. He purchased two square miles of land and began transforming what is now well-known as Port Royal into “a showplace of casual elegance”.
